I am very pleased to offer an opinion on John Cotton and feel well placed to do so.
I first met John in 1987 when as the newly appointed Managing Director of Australian Directory Services I was making a meet and greet tour of all Australian states.My initial impressions were very favourable and I made it point of observing John sales performance and that of his team.
His results both from a revenue and mentoring point of view were outstanding, he constantly over achieved in both important areas. The key to his success was his ability to training and motivate his direct reports. I was so impressed that within 6 months I promoted him to the role of State manager, again with this higher level of authority his results continued to outperform all sales target.
In 1990 I again promoted John to the position of Regional Manager with responsibilities for WA, SA and the NT. Same story here.In 1991 I returned to the USA but watched John progress and was not surprised to hear of his promotion to the role of General Manager now including Queensland in his portfolio.
John's success is due to his ability to communicate and train his people; his own outstanding sales career speaks volumes for his ability to train not theory but practicalities.
